Tulsa-Pro Q & A

What is TULSA-PRO?

TULSA-PRO technology uses cutting-edge, MRI-guided transurethral ultrasound ablation to treat prostate cancer or BPH symptoms. The procedure is minimally invasive, robotically driven, and delivers precise doses of ultrasound energy to remove diseased tissues without damaging the healthy tissues surrounding your prostate gland.

How does Tulsa-Pro technology work?

Tulsa-Pro technology uses a rod-shaped device inserted into your urethra (the tube carrying urine). This device delivers thermal ultrasound energy to your prostate gland. It sends out sound waves that heat targeted tissues to destroy them. Dr. Satsangi monitors ultrasound ablation treatment in real time, ensuring immediate MRI feedback and optimal results.

What are the benefits of TULSA-PRO?

TULSA-PRO provides the following benefits and more:

  • Outpatient procedure
  • Continence and sexual function preservation
  • Precise imaging guidance
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Minimal recovery time
  • Customizable treatment
  • Highly effective results
  • Incision-free
  • Radiation-free
  • Utmost safety

This treatment offers exceptional results with a low risk of complications.

Am I a candidate for TULSA-PRO?

Dr. Satsangi reviews your medical history and symptoms to determine if you may have a diseased prostate gland. He completes physical and prostate exams and may order blood tests, urine testing, imaging procedures, a biopsy, or other diagnostic tests.

What should I expect during Tulsa-Pro treatment?

You receive general anesthesia to help you fall asleep and avoid any discomfort during TULSA-PRO treatment. Dr. Satsangi inserts a specialized device, called an ultrasound applicator, into your urethra. It delivers ultrasound energy to your prostate gland while a cooling mechanism protects the urethra from damage.

What happens after a TULSA-PRO procedure?

Following a TULSA-PRO procedure, you can usually go home the same day — but have someone drive you. Compared to many other prostate resection procedures, TULSA-PRO protects you against urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction (ED), bowel dysfunction, and more.

Your recovery time is often easy and quick, though you may wear a catheter for a few days or weeks post-treatment to aid in urination. Follow up with Dr. Satsangi at Mission City Urology to ensure an effective, long-lasting outcome.
